Ever since we got our dog Daisy 3 years ago, we have been wondering what breed she is. She is supposedly Golden Retriever and Boxer mix, well she really doesn't look like either one. Granted my husband saw the mother and she was a Golden, she looks absolutely nothing like a Golden. We have been asked multiple times if she is a Rhodesian Ridgeback, after doing a little research, she does look like one without the ridge, but she is way too small. Last night, after taking a break planning my kids lessons, I did a little more research and I believe she could be a Black Mouth Cur. She looks exactly like the dog pictured below.
Now the picture below is our dog Daisy. She is a funny thing, very affectionate and playful with us, but extremely reserved, timid and wary with other people. It takes her quite awhile to warm up to anyone new.
Anyway, I thought Cur and Grrr... would go well together today. Today was our first day with Connections Academy. I was nervous, and expected it to be rough, I was still being a bit overly optimistic. I woke up at 7am, got in the shower, cleaned the kitchen and made coffee (I really needed it) all so I could be ready for the day to start. I woke up the kids at 8am, my 12-yr-old daughter is easy to wake up, my 7-yr-old son likes to be a bit difficult. He ended crawling out of bed by about 8:20am. I made them waffles and scrambled eggs for breakfast. We started school at 9am.
My daughter being in 6th grade, has to be more independent and she was. She sat down, did her lessons, asked for help when needed. Granted it took her way more than the 5-hours it was supposed to take. We obviously need to work on better time management skills. She wasn't messing around, I am not sure what took her so long. Unfortunately, my son who is in 2nd grade, decided after about the first hour and a half, that he was going to make my day a living hell.
Part of that may have been my fault, I tried to use a block schedule, to have him do most of his language arts all in one day. The language arts lessons, are quite time-consuming and there is a lot of worksheets, and activities. I did find out, you don't have to do every single part of the lesson, which helped after I finally asked. If you did everything, it would take them way over and hour to do the lesson. I was pulling my hair out, until I found out you can skip some things. Was I relieved.

It is definitely different, and it is going to take a little while to get used to. I think once we all get used to the system and find a system that works for us it is going to be a really good decision. The other parents that are part of Connections Academy have been a big help so far, they have answered a ton of my questions and we already have a couple of field trips planned. The last picture is what my beautifully cleaned kitchen looked like towards the end of our very, long first day.
While saying bedtime prayers tonight, we all prayed for a smoother day tomorrow. Wish us luck!
