We have been trying a looping schedule for our homeschool for the past 2 months. It is really starting to grow on me, it is allowing room in our schedule for things like Music Theory. Speaking of, if you are interested in teaching music theory for FREE, I found the best resources today. We also use SchoolHouseTeachers.com's music theory class (which is not free, but is affordable), I also found some great stand-alone resources today; worksheets (for reinforcement), and a few YouTube videos. For your enjoyment, and as a free resource I am providing the links to our first lesson below. Free resources are so important. If wishes were flowers, affording all the curriculum I want and need wouldn't be an issue, since wishes don't grow on trees, we utilize quite a few free resources in our homeschool. I hope you enjoy, and I hope this can bless your homeschool too!
Steps in which we did them are listed in order as follows below.

This video is very informative, it taught me a lot; it may be a little boring for little ones. My youngest is 8, and he had a hard time paying attention, even though the video is only 10 minutes long. We followed, with a fun song video to teach the Piano and Forte symbols. I drew the symbols on separate pieces of paper and had them sing softly if I held up the Piano symbol, and then I would change over to the Forte symbol and if they were paying attention, they would sing very loudly. I switched them at random intervals, it was a great way to get them to learn the symbols and what they mean. I have made a couple PDF files with the symbols on them for you to download. You could print them on regular paper, cardstock would be better. You can download the files below, and then use the YouTube video for the song.
We ended the lesson with free worksheets from Opus Music Worksheets; Lesson 1: Staff and Lesson 2: Staff - High and Low. You can find them by clicking on the links.
I hope you enjoy these free resources!
