My 15 year old daughter has taken it upon herself to learn Japanese, it is 1/8 of her heritage. She independently pursued it for a year, so we bought her Rosetta Stone Japanese levels 1-3 for Christmas last year. This intrigued my youngest son, who is now 7. He decided he wanted to learn a foreign language, he decided on Spanish. I haven't had my SchoolHouseTeachers membership for very long. I am so glad I bought it, they offer a few different languages, Elementary Spanish is one of them.
Each lesson is 2-weeks long. Each lesson starts with a video to watch, I also watch and participate with him. There is also a printable to go along with the video, just one page so far, that goes over everything in the video lesson. We are only 2 full lessons down, and going on our third, he loves it! In the first lesson, she teaches the very first part of the bible verse John 3:16, spanish vowels, and some common words to practice. We go over this page daily, it doesn't take long. The second week there is another printable for more review, no video. Lesson two, consisted of another small part of John 3:16, some of the spanish consonants (like the rolled r, the sound the double L makes), and some more words to practice. Each lesson is broken down into two weeks, consisting of two parts. The first week/part is the video and a printable to practice everyday. The second week/part is just a printable to practice daily. Each week you are putting the parts of John 3:16 that you have learned together. My son has memorized his parts so far, he is doing awesome. You can see in the video below.
I am loving the fact that he loves this. He is so proud of himself, as he should be. SchoolHouseTeachers Elementary Spanish, is perfect, it is little bits of information at a time, that build upon each other. Simple and uncomplicated is the perfect way to describe this spanish curriculum so far. Once we complete it, I hope to post a complete review. So far we both are loving it. Being bilingual in today's culture is so important. I hope this review has helped you, if you have any questions please feel free to ask in the comments.
Just a mom, trying to homeschool, and learning right along with them. This has been the most fun, the most rewarding and the hardest thing I have ever undertaken. It is more than worth it!
